Mum’s the word, but in this case, Mum’s the dog! This three-year-old Pit Bull mix arrived as a stray at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County, South Carolina, on June 19th. The aptly named Mum was not alone; she came in with her child (Kid) and her child’s dad (Pops). While Kid and Pops were able to get a rescue commitment, poor Mum need extra help because she was heartworm positive.
On July 21st, Ruthie Rish with MAMAS, reached out to RADAR for help with Mum’s heartworm treatment costs. If MAMAS could get Mum’s treatment done, Fetch A Friend Rescue in New York would take her as well. With a treatment slot available on July 23rd and a transport set for July 28th, Mum could quickly be on her way to starting her new life. Of course, we agreed to assist. Mum got her treatment and made her way to New York right on schedule.
“Mum has clearly given birth to several litters of puppies,” Ruthie said. “This poor girl has done her duty as a mom, and now needs to be the one who is being taken care of, instead of taking care of many others. She is gentle and kind, and everything you would want a dog to be. In fact, all three are stellar dogs who are ambassadors for their breed. They are calm, friendly and very affectionate, with not a mean bone in any of their little bodies!” To see more photos of Mum, click here.
RADAR paid all $270 of the heartworm treatment costs for Mum.
