Murdock has a saddle, a black one, which complements his brown fur and highlights his German Shepherd roots. Unfortunately, this type of saddle is not one that could help Murdock bear the weight of his heartworm positive diagnosis. Murdock is two years old, and a handsome German Shepherd mix who came to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on May 1st as a stray. The only way he would leave the shelter alive would be if a rescue pulled him.
Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program started networking Murdock on May 11th. In the intervening ten days that Murdock had been impounded, word was getting around that he was a special dog. He was super friendly, loved other dogs and never met a stranger. Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut liked what they saw and heard but could not pull Murdock unless funds were available for his heartworm treatment. Mary Lou asked RADAR for assistance on May 17th and we agreed. Murdock was safe on May 19th! He had his heartworm treatment on June 3rd.
Murdock’s caregivers says he has the German Shepherd personality in spades. He walks well on a leash, is smart and easily trained. “He is a gem!” We agree, Murdock is a multi-faceted dog, worth his weight in carats. To view more photos of Murdock, click here.
RADAR paid all of Murdock’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $299.
