A handsome redhead, Murphy, a one-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, had already been through enough troubles to last a dog lifetime! His owner had died and so Murphy arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 24th. Murphy had an embedded collar wound, but his biggest trouble was that he tested positive for heartworms. Murphy sat and waited in the shelter for a rescue to give him a better rest of his life, but with the cost of treating heartworms, he waited and waited and waited.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, worked to network Murphy with rescues. Home At Last Rescue Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania ultimately had an open spot, but needed assistance with the medical costs of Murphy’s heartworm treatment. Susan communicated the need for help to RADAR on June 19th, and RADAR replied in the affirmative! Murphy had his back-to-back heartworm treatment on July 20th and 21st.
Susan is so great at telling us about the dogs at Darlington and wanted everyone to know about Murphy: “Looking for a hug? With his thick, red, inviting coat, Murphy is one of the most huggable guys in town! This well-mannered, never in a rush guy, is calm and welcoming of all! He is polite and friendly with other dogs. A bit of a skilled ball retriever, his preference really seems to be simply hanging close to his human and he loves children. His tail keeps a steady cadence and his smile is broad and inviting. He loves attention. Murphy likes to make sure his coat looks nice and fluffy, and enjoys being brushed while he stands very still. Murphy would fit well into a family with kids and other dogs.” Be sure to view more photos in Murphy’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Murphy’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $552.
