The name Nadia is of Russian origin, meaning “hope.” This Nadia, an eight-year-old Lab mix, was hoping to find her forever home when she arrived at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on July 1st. Being a stray, Nadia’s past was a little fuzzy. Unfortunately, being a senior dog and testing positive for heartworms made it clear that Nadia’s chances of being rescued or adopted were slim.

There was still hope for Nadia though, because on July 4th, Karen Steers with Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina asked RADAR if we could help. They were interested in pulling Nadia from the shelter, but they needed help with the cost of her heartworm treatment. We agreed to assist, and she was safe! Nadia received her treatment on August 20th.

We learned from folks at the shelter that Nadia is a sweet, independent and happy girl. She enjoys spending time looking out the window and riding in the car. Though Nadia is shy at first, it doesn’t take long for her to warm up to those who make an effort to get to know her. To see more photos of Nadia, click here.

RADAR paid all $302 of the heartworm treatment costs for Nadia.
