Neptune

The name Neptune might make you think of sea gods or icy planets, but this Neptune is truly the best kind you’ll find. A two-year-old Bully Breed mix, this guy was left behind by a rescue transport that was transferring dogs from the small outdoor-kennel Bertie County Humane Society shelter in North Carolina on September 13th. With Hurricane Florence predicted to hit the next day, Neptune urgently needed a safe place to stay.

Thankfully, Destiny Shell, who runs Dogs of Destiny, was willing to take Neptune. But help would be needed for his heartworm treatment. Destiny asked for our help, saying, “We could not leave him to fend for himself in the elements of a hurricane in an outdoor kennel. We agreed to assist. He was pulled from the shelter within hours of the hurricane’s arrival. He started his heartworm treatment on November 20th.

“This guy is a big lovable puppy!” Destiny told us. “He is full of curiosity and loves to make new doggie friends, although sometimes he can be a bit paws on and overzealous, which is intimidating to some dogs at his size, but we are working on that and he is a fast learner! He loves his treats and will sit nicely and take them gently! He is a big bundle of energy and just an all around happy boy! He’s obviously thankful to be loved and safe, and leave his awful past behind him, This boy knows no sorrow now!” To see more photos of Neptune, click here.

RADAR paid $350 towards approximately half of the heartworm treatment costs for Neptune.
