Things were tricky for Nickie when she arrived at the Blount County Animal Center in Tennessee on March 22nd. This adorable eight-year-old Hound mix was surrendered to the shelter by her owner, who had just lost his home. While it seemed like Nickie’s owner loved her, Nickie was in need of vet care. It turned out that she was heartworm positive. That, coupled with being a senior gal, diminished her chances of being rescued or adopted.
On May 4th, Kristin Baksa, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, asked for our assistance with Nickie’s heartworm treatment costs. “After her treatment is complete,” Kristin said, “we will find a Hound lover to take her home to her forever family.” We agreed to help, and she received her treatment just four days later on May 8th!
Nickie may have a few years behind her, but her energy and happy attitude make her young at heart! Kristin told us this about her: “She is definitely a go-go gadget! She’s a friendly girl who loves everyone. But probably not rabbits or cats – she is a Hound with some prey drive!” Click here to view more photos of Nickie.
RADAR paid all of Nickie’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $337.
