What do RADAR and Garfield have in common? We both have a dog named Odie! This three to four-year-old Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix arrived on May 24th as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. This beautiful boy had no rescue interest, which can be attributed to his heartworm positive status. As the weeks passed, Odie was running out of time. He was put on the euthanasia list for July 3rd.
On July 1st, RADAR made an offer to cover Odie’s heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. Thanks to the efforts of the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers and RADAR’s offer, on July 3rd Home at Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Odie! Independence Day arrived a day early for this dog.
Odie had his heartworm treatment done on July 29th. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, had this to say about Odie: “He is sweet and gentle. Odie is a friendly soul. He is one dog you will feel compelled to hug!” To view more photos of Odie, click here.
RADAR paid all $218 of the heartworm treatment costs for Odie.
