Among the many meanings of the gemstone Onyx are inner strength, focused attention, willpower and discipline. And those could all apply to this Onyx, who is a gem of dog! Approximately three years old, Onyx is a Bully Breed mix who arrived as a stray on May 3rd at the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina. Despite her great qualities, she lingered at the shelter for over four months. A major reason for this was that she was heartworm positive.

When Three Divas Dog Rescue in Vermont expressed interest Onyx on September 7th, shelter animal advocate Merrily Caldwell wasted no time in seeking RADAR’s assistance. We agreed to cover Onyx’s heartworm treatment costs, which secured her rescue commitment. She had her heartworm treatment done on October 3rd.

“Onyx is a short and stocky girl who is big on love!” Merrily told us. “Her tail never stops wagging! She is a roly-poly girl who loves to roll around in the grass. She doesn’t appear to have any ill will toward other dogs. She is very submissive to people, but once she knows you’re not being mean to her, that tail starts wagging and she’s all about the love. She is a total sweetheart!” To see more photos of Onyx, click here.

RADAR paid all of Onyx’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $200.
