Like so many black dogs in shelters, Onyx was an overlooked gem who was a jewel to behold! One to two years old and a Labrador Retriever mix, Onyx arrived as a stray at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina way back in May on Friday the 13th. Onyx tested positive for heartworms. Talk about bad luck! Spring turned to summer, and summer turned to fall, as poor Onyx lived in limbo at the shelter hoping for a rescue or adopter.
Laura Roberts, through her Road Home Rescue in North Carolina, decided to try and save Onyx. On October 28th, Laura requested RADAR’s help with Onyx. If we could assist with the heartworm treatment costs for Onyx, Laura would pull her and get her treatment done. We agreed and Onyx received her heartworm treatment on November 16th and 17th. The Coastal Canine Rescue in North Carolina was then able to take Onyx and place her in a foster home.
We were told this about Onyx: “She’s a delight! She is the friendliest dog. Onyx is a good walker on a leash and she has been good inside the home. Onyx enjoys following her foster around, and loves being petted and getting attention. She is very sweet, loving, playful and grateful. Onyx is the kind of dog anyone could easily wrap their arms around in a big hug and she will respond back with kisses! She has an easygoing temperament sure to appeal to all. Onyx will be the perfect fit for a family looking for a hidden gem!” Click here to view more photos of Onyx.
RADAR paid all of Onyx’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $151.
