While the origin of the name of the famous Oreo cookie is unknown, it’s easy to see how this Oreo got his name! Sadly, Oreo and his friend Chico, lost his home when his owners lost their home. He was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on December 1st. Three years old and a blend of Bully Breed and Labrador Retriever, Oreo couldn’t understand why he had lost both his home and his family. Standing in the way of finding a rescue or an adopter was Oreo’s positive heartworm status.

On January 4th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, requested our help with Oreo. Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland would take him if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. We agreed and Oreo was safe! He had his heartworm treatment done on February 7th.

“Oreo is awesome!” Susan told us. “He is a wonderfully mannered fellow who is super friendly and eager to please. He reeks of classic elegance. He has an easygoing, steady wagging approach around other dogs. He’s a skilled leash walker. Oreo loves pleasing his person, getting snuggly and stretching out on his back to catch a few rays of sunshine.” Click here to view more photos of Oreo.

RADAR paid all of Oreo’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $344.
