Pablo, perhaps after hearing so much talk about Triple Crown winners, figured that if he could run full-bore, he could win an adopter or rescue. So while impounded at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina due to an owner surrender on May 15th, Pablo trained. Not in his run, pardon the pun, but in his sleep, where all things are possible. Unfortunately the possibility of Pablo making it out of the shelter alive was as slim as his breeding rights being sold for $10 million (for one thing, he was already neutered)!
The shelter was so overcrowded when Pablo arrived that he was put in a crate in a back room. Perhaps if Triple Crown winner American Pharoah had been put out of sight, he would still have his tail! But Pablo had little chance of getting adopted back there. The fact that he is a black dog reduced his chances even more. To make matters worse, Pablo was terrified of his surroundings. Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County, requested our help for Pablo. We provided an offer to assist with Pablo’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. Pablo was rescued by Hearts for Hounds Rescue in Virginia on May 21st. His initial vetting took place on May 23rd.
Pablo, a one to two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, is shy at first, but once he gets to know you he is a love bug! He loves the human touch and when you stop loving on him, he gently reminds you with a kiss that he is still there. He is quiet, well-mannered and good with other dogs. In fact, Pablo loves other dogs! He comes alive when playing with a canine friend and would prefer another dog in his forever home. Pablo also likes water; he even played in the sprinkler all by himself! To view more photos of Pablo, click here.
RADAR paid all $158 of Pablo’s initial vetting costs.
