It’s the peachy keen Peaches! This stunning two-year-old Redtick Coonhound mix arrived at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 27th. It’s unknown how or why Peaches ended up at the shelter. Hounds are especially at risk in rural shelters, and with this shelter already overflowing, Peaches faced some long odds of getting out alive.
On March 24th Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County, asked for our help with Peaches. As an incentive for a rescue to take her, we provided an offer to assist with her vetting costs. On March 27th the Northeast Coonhound Rescue in Massachusetts agreed to take Peaches! Regrettably, during her initial vetting Peaches tested heartworm positive. RADAR agreed to increase its assistance to help cover her heartworm treatment.
Deborah Parrish, who volunteered to transport Peaches for her three-hour trip to and from the vet for her May 4th heartworm treatment, had this to share with us: “Peaches is not just gorgeous, she’s magnificent! She’s very friendly, happy, spirited, playful and seems well-adjusted. Peaches is affectionate, calm and great with other dogs. She would roll around in the back seat, all four paws in the air, trying to toss the blanket which was half under her! She must have played this game four times. It was so comical!” To see more photos of Peaches, click here.
RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Peaches.
