Pearls are said to symbolize wisdom obtained through experience. This Pearl, a 10-year-old Bully Breed mix, wears her name well, considering how much she’s been through in life. She arrived as a stray at Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on January 11th. Being extremely emaciated and in great need of food and care, it came as no surprise that Pearl was heartworm positive. Unfortunately, being a senior dog in this condition meant that finding a forever home or rescue would be a difficult feat.
On January 17th, Henni Rains with Dune Dawgs Rescue in North Carolina asked RADAR if we would be able to help with her heartworm treatment costs. We agreed to help! Once out of the shelter, Pearl was given time to heal her weary body and gain some much-needed weight. She received her treatments on February 25th and March 22nd. Pearl was then transferred to OBX ARF-p, the Outer Banks Animal Rescue Funding Project.
While Pearl has certainly been through some hard times in her life, and clearly wasn’t treated as she deserves, she’s never given up on finding a good place to call home. “Pearl is active and lovable,” Henni told us. “She craves love and is an absolute snuggle bunny!” To see more photos of Pearl, click here.
RADAR paid all $250 of the heartworm treatment costs for Pearl.
