Sweet Peppa arrived as a very pregnant Bully Breed mix stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Within a week of her arrival at the shelter on February 4th, Peppa gave birth to six puppies. Sadly, all her puppies died within two days, probably due to poor nutrition before Peppa arrived at the shelter. Another sign of past neglect was Peppa’s heartworm status, as this two-year-old tested heartworm positive. With her mix of breed and positive heartworm status, Peppa would need a helping hand to find a rescue.

RADAR is ready to help if we can. To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania offered to take Peppa if her heartworms could be treated first. So Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society, turned to us for help with Peppa on April 3rd. We agreed to help and Peppa finished her heartworm treatment on April 14th.

Susan told us this about Peppa: “She is a sweet, sad-eyed lady. She is gentle and waits politely, tail wagging modestly until you approach her and then rolls over in submission. She craves petting, attention and affection. Peppa is an obedient leash walker and likes short walks. Peppa sleeps snuggled with her own stuffed animal, dreaming and longing for a family of her own.” Be sure to view more photos in Peppa’s gallery.

RADAR paid all $284 of the heartworm treatment costs for Peppa.
