Unlike the outgoing Peppermint Patty of “Peanuts” fame, this Peppermint Patty is a bit shy. She arrived at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County, South Carolina on May 22nd. This two-year-old Bully Breed mix was picked up as a stray by law enforcement and it was clear Peppermint Patty had not had an easy time so far in her young life. She was underweight and had several scars on her back from where it appears something hot or corrosive was poured on her and other scars that could indicate that she was used as a bait dog. She was also heartworm positive, which lessened this sweet dog’s chances for adoption or rescue.
Ruthie Rish with MAMAS reached out to RADAR for help on July 29th. Laura’s Hope Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to transport Peppermint Patty north to the rescue, but her heartworms would need to be treated first. Could we help? We said we would fund Peppermint Patty’s life-saving treatment. She completed her heartworm treatment on August 6th.
Peppermint Patty, with her sweet, gentle nature, was a go-to dog in the shelter for testing other dogs. She is calm and loving and makes friends with everyone. She is consistently a ‘good girl.’ On her transport north, she was a bit scared but gentle throughout. She is a young girl who will need some help to understand that she can now live a happy life and that she deserves only the best! To see more photos of Peppermint Patty, click here.
RADAR paid all of Peppermint Patty’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $270.
