What do you get when you mix a Pomeranian and an American Eskimo Dog? A Pomerimo? An Eskiranian? How about Perry! Two years old and weighing 22 pounds, Perry arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on June 22nd. Perry faced two challenges in getting out of the shelter alive. First, he was a bit fickle around other dogs, and second, he was heartworm positive. Both made rescue placement all the more difficult. Perry ended up on the shelter’s PTS (Put To Sleep) list for August 7th.
Each week the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers work diligently to save as many dogs as they can on the PTS list. And Perry was no exception. On August 4th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers requested our help. We immediately provided an offer to cover Perry’s heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. And just in time, Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland agreed to take Perry!
On August 12th, Perry had his heartworm treatment done. Susan had this to tell us about Perry: “When he arrived at the shelter, Perry was full of optimism, fun and energy. Then he became much more quiet and subdued, staying in the back of his kennel. He seemed to lose his faith that someone would come for him. Perry is good with cats. He’s also good with kids who can be more gentle and respectful of him.” Click here to view more photos of Perry.
RADAR paid all $134 of Perry’s heartworm treatment costs.
