Just when it seemed like any hope for Peter was petering out, a rescue offer was received! Read on for the details. Peter, an approximately one-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 11th. Despite endless efforts promoting Peter to rescues, months passed with no luck. The combination of his being a black dog and having heartworms didn’t help his plight.
On May 28th, To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Peter if his heartworm treatment could be provided. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, wasted no time in seeking our help. We agreed, sealing his rescue deal! He received his heartworm treatment on June 2nd.
“Peter is fun central!” Susan told us. “He loves to run and romp, and if you add toys to the mix, he’d love to play fetch with you! He’s very much a teen at heart in his outlook on life! His tail is long enough and he can angle it such that he is almost slapping himself in the face with it! Peter is a pure joy to hang out with as he finds fun in everything! He’s very affectionate and huggy, and wishing to be part of the action. An active home with slightly older kids would suit his style just perfectly.” Be sure to view more photos in Peter’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Peter’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $278.
UPDATE! All funds for Peter have been raised! Thank you!
While RADAR is no longer asking for donations for our nonprofit, we ask that you check out some of our rescue partners and make a donation to one or more of them.
