Petey arrived at the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina with all the little rascals in tow! When Petey’s owner became ill and was hospitalized, his friends and family realized he had been hoarding animals. Petey was one of over 100 animals on the property. Petey and friends were surrendered on September 26th, and it was quickly discovered that every dog saved from the property was heartworm positive and had very little socialization. Being heartworm positive and under-socialized in a small rural shelter would make finding safe passage out of the shelter all the more challenging.
After almost six months in the shelter, Home at Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania offered to rescue Petey IF his heartworm treatment could be covered. RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, Brandi Sowell, immediately contacted RADAR for help. We agreed to assist with Petey’s heartworm treatment to seal his rescue deal. Petey received his heartworm treatment on April 10th.
We were told this about Petey from his stay at the shelter: “Petey has experienced so many firsts at the shelter! His first time being loved and cared for by people. His experienced his first toy, which he loved! He’s finally been able to be a dog, and he’s beginning to love life again!” To see more photos of Petey, click here.
RADAR paid all $351 of the heartworm treatment costs for Petey.
