Poor Petey had a tough time of it. This four-year-old Bully Breed mix ended up at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 6th. His world had been turned upside down. Petey would stay in the back of his kennel shaking and frightened. His ears had been cropped so drastically that not much was left of them. And, he was heartworm positive.
On February 12th, the Guardian Animal Foundation in North Carolina requested RADAR’s help with Petey’s vetting and heartworm treatment costs. If we could assist, they would pull Petey. We agreed, and he was safe! He needed dental care, and that was done on March 14th. He began his heartworm treatment medications on March 16th.
“Petey is a very unsure boy,” the rescue told us. “He is still scared. He acts almost shocked when we pet him, as if he can’t believe someone is petting him. He holds very still and tilts his head up as you pet him. It is very sad. However, all that is about to change for him. He came into his foster home and met the small dogs and large dogs briefly. He got to run around the back yard and acted like he was expecting someone to yell at him. It took him an hour or so, but he finally gave me some kisses. Petey is going to do great!” To see more photos of Petey, click here.
RADAR paid $250 towards the dental care and heartworm treatment medication costs for Petey.
