With Petunia, we welcome a new rescue partner to the RADAR family: One Love Animal Rescue in Georgia. One of the rural shelters where this rescue focuses on helping at-risk dogs is operated by the Jasper Animal Rescue Mission (JARM), which serves as the shelter for Jasper County, South Carolina. And that’s where poor Petunia ended up on March 2nd after being found as a stray in someone’s yard. Five years old and a Hound mix, Petunia tested heartworm positive.
On March 23rd, Erin Padgitt with One Love Animal Rescue first reached out to RADAR for help with Petunia and other heartworm positive dogs at JARM. “They try very hard at JARM to be no-kill,” Erin told us, “but since they are their county’s only shelter that is not always possible, and they get tons of heartworm positive cases.” We were encouraged by the relatively reasonable cost charged for heartworm treatment by JARM’s vet. We agreed to help. Petunia received her heartworm treatment on March 29th.
“When Petunia arrived at the shelter, she was skin and bones and very weak,” Erin said. “We assume she spent many years as a hunting dog. She has put on a good amount of weight and definitely has her energy back. She is playful with other dogs and cat-friendly too. She loves kids. She’s a very sweet girl who just wants love!” Click here to view more photos of Petunia.
RADAR paid all of Petunia’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $218.
