Pina was so scared when she arrived at the Fairfield County Animal Control and Adoption Center in South Carolina on June 18th that she tried using tiny fearful growls to push the staff away. But the staff at the shelter wasn’t fooled by her tough front, and they soon found the mushy, sweet heart of this three-year-old Bully Breed mix stray. Pina had been bred too many times, had an injury on her lip and terrible flea dermatitis. Pina’s newly-revealed soft heart was infested with deadly heartworms and she needed treatment to overcome her sad past, become healthy and find a rescue.
Samira Yaghi, Rescue Coordinator at the shelter, reached out to RADAR on June 26th, asking for help with Pina’s heartworm treatment costs so she could attract rescue interest. RADAR agreed to assist, and Pina had her back-to-back heartworm treatments on July 6th and 7th.
On July 9th, Key to Lion’s Heart Rescue in Maryland committed to the heartworm-free Pina. Samira fostered Pina at her home to recover from the strenuous heartworm treatment. She told us that Pina is a true love bug. Pina will never be bred again or suffer from neglect. Pina can now concentrate on finding a loving and caring forever home… on that hopefully has a pool, as Pina enjoyed sunning herself by the pool at Samira’s house! Be sure to view more photos in Pina’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Pina’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $282.
UPDATE! All funds for Pina have been raised! Thank you!
