Howdy y’all. My name is Piper and do I have a story to tell! I’m a three-year-old Pitbull girl. My friends Lilah and King are also Pitbulls, and we had been chained outside all our lives, along with several other dogs. We didn’t know any other type of life. Then our owner died of an overdose, and on January 2nd we were taken to the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. It was no surprise to anyone that we were heartworm positive, living as we did outside in a hot, humid climate and no heartworm preventive. Our lives up until then hadn’t been great, but we wondered what would happen to us now?
Fortunately for us, a kind rescue person, Madi Joselyn, with the Burlington County Animal Alliance (BCAA) in New Jersey, wrote to a group called RADAR about me and Lilah on January 29th. If the folks at RADAR could help with our heartworm treatment, BCAA would take both of us. They immediately agreed to help us! We completed my heartworm treatment on March 5th. Both BCAA and RADAR also helped King a few weeks later!
Now that I’m with the rescue and in a foster home, I love to play with my foster brother. I’m so very happy to be out of the shelter! While I’m still a little timid, my foster Mom says that I’m a sweet happy girl who loves everyone! To see more photos of me, click here!
RADAR paid all $389 of the heartworm treatment costs for Piper.
