This guy might share a name with Mickey’s renowned pooch Pluto, but he also happens to share an important trait with another well-known character: Goofy! This silly and sweet one-year-old Bully Breed mix arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 21st when he was brought in by animal control as a stray. Sadly, Pluto tested positive for heartworms, and coupled with his breed mix, his chances of being rescued or adopted were looking slimmer by the minute.

Thankfully, all hope was not lost for Pluto. Long Trail Canine Rescue in Vermont expressed interest in him, but he needed heartworm treatment in order for them to pull him from the shelter. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR to see if we could assist. We agreed, and he was safe! Pluto got his treatment on March 26th.

“Pluto was our superstar as he nicely mixed and mingled with a variety of other dogs,” the shelter shared with us. “Keeping a steady pace, wagging tail and approachable smile, he had such a great time taking in the fresh air, getting some exercise and making new friends. Good natured, sweet and playful, Pluto has a goofy side to him that simply makes you smile!” To see more photos of Pluto, click here.

RADAR paid all $287 of the heartworm treatment costs for Pluto.

UPDATE! All funds for Pluto have been raised! Thank you!
