We don’t know if this Polly would sing “Polly Wolly Doodle all the day.” Or, perhaps do a Hound howl to it! But just what is Polly Wolly Doodle anyway? It’s believed to be a nonsense phrase without meaning. Four years old and a mix of Redbone Coonhound and Dachshund, Polly and her three older pups were found in a ditch by animal control and taken to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on October 4th. While her puppies would be easy to get placed, Polly would be more problematic because she tested positive for heartworms.

Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, asked us for help with Polly on November 3rd. One Love Animal Rescue in New Jersey agreed to take her if help could be found for her heartworm treatment costs. We agreed, and Polly was safe! She was transported to the rescue, and began her heartworm treatment on December 21st.

“Polly reminds me of a Dachshund on stilts!” Brandi had told us. “She is incredibly laid-back and sweet. She has tested well with kids, dogs and cats.” The rescue had this to share with us: “Sweet Polly is 30 pounds of pure sweetness. She is a little shy at first, but once she is comfy with you she is all in.” Click here to view more photos of Polly.

RADAR paid $250 towards Polly’s heartworm treatment costs.
