Poochie

A kiss is just a kiss, but with Poochie, it’s a smoochie! Three to four years old, this Shepherd-Carolina Dog mix arrived on July 8th at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Poochie and her pup Peaches were surrendered to the shelter by their owner who could no longer care for them. Peaches was quickly taken into foster care, and just as quickly got rescued. But poor Poochie remained at the shelter, and at ever-increasing risk. Unfortunately, she was also heartworm positive. She ended up on the shelter’s “Put To Sleep” list for August 20th.

On August 19th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us to see if we could help save Poochie. One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania offered to take Poochie IF her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. We agreed, and Poochie was safe! She had her heartworm treatment done on August 27th.

Upon meeting Poochie for the first time, Susan told us that “this petite, mini Shepard mix had me at ‘Hello!’ Was it her fun, infectious smile? Her sweet, bubbly, non-overbearing personality? Or was it how skilled she was at giving kisses, draping herself on me or her affable aura that simply attracts both people and other dogs to be by her side?  It’s hard to say what synched the deal for me since she has so much pet appeal! She’s ready to make a friend and make that friend feel simply awesome!” To view more photos of Poochie, click here.

RADAR paid all of heartworm treatment costs for Poochie, totaling $203.
