In Irish folklore, a Pooka is a creature who brings both bad and good fortune. But this Pooka had her own bad and good fortune. Approximately four years old, Pooka is a Bully Breed mix who had the bad fortune to end up in the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina in late February. With the shelter filled to capacity, Pooka’s status quickly became urgent and her life was on the line. It didn’t help that she was a Bully Breed mix and was somewhat older.
Pooka’s good fortune began to take shape on March 3rd when Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County, asked for our help with Pooka. As an incentive for a rescue to take her, we provided an offer to assist with her vetting costs. On March 5th, Houlagans’ Rest in Virginia agreed to take Pooka! Jenny Luther provider her with a temporary foster home in North Carolina. Following her transport to Virginia, Pooka’s vetting and spaying took place on May 13th.
“Pooka is beautiful, friendly and loves attention,” Jenny shared with us. “She has soulful eyes that follow your every move. She’s energetic and loves to play with her toys. She gives kisses freely! She loves car rides. Pooka will make someone an awesome cuddle bug!” Click here to view more photos of Pooka.
RADAR paid Pooka’s vetting and spaying costs, which totaled $163.
