What do you call this tale of Poseidon? Yes, The Poseidon Adventure! A two-year-old Shepherd mix, Poseidon was one of several dogs confiscated from a family in November and taken to the Orangeburg County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. All of the dogs tested heartworm positive. And all of the dogs were at risk at this high-kill shelter.

The good folks at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Shelter (MAMAS) in Bamberg County, South Carolina knew they had to help Poseidon.  They had already pulled his brother Zeus, and after taking care of his heartworm treatment, found a great home for him. Now they wanted to do the same for Poseidon so that he would not be euthanized, but needed funding help. Ruthie Rish at MAMAS reached out to RADAR, and we agreed to assist. Poseidon was pulled to safety on January 8th. “He loves people,” Ruthie told us, “but is very submissive and not quite as secure around males. He has stayed in our office and loved it!”

Poseidon received his heartworm treatment on January 23rd. He was transported to the Pregnant Dog and All Breed Rescue in Pennsylvania on January 27th. Some of his transporters had this to share about Poseidon: “He is so sweet!” “He settled down after a little bit and had his head in my lap most of the way.” “He was nervous, but a super sweet boy.” To see more photos of Poseidon, click here.

RADAR paid all $285 of the heartworm treatment costs for Poseidon.
