While all of RADAR’s dogs are precious, only this Precious went on to become a Princess! On November 9th, this blind, 10-year-old Toy Poodle arrived at the Catawba County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. Even though Precious was house trained, very friendly and sweet, and did well without her eyesight, she was surrendered because her owner did not want a blind dog. A senior blind dog does not stand much of a chance of making it out of a kill shelter alive. Precious also needed to have mammary tumors removed and dental work done.
Precious was in dire need of a guardian angel. And that’s just what she got when Angels Among Us Animal Sanctuary in Pennsylvania agreed to take Precious with assistance from RADAR. Precious was safely out of the shelter on November 12th. She stayed in North Carolina in a temporary foster home until her transport to Pennsylvania on December 7th. A thorough vet exam a few days later revealed multiple mammary tumors.
On December 26th, following x-rays, Precious had surgery done to remove seven mammary tumors, including one the size of a tangerine! All were sent for biopsies. She also received her dental treatment. Despite the vet generously volunteering her time and only charging for two of the seven biopsies, the bill was extensive. RADAR covered one-third of the cost. The next morning her foster mom reported that Precious was wagging her tail, wanted to be held and had a hearty appetite.
Her foster mom could not stand the thought of a blind dog like Precious wearing an E-Collar following her surgery, so she bought a baby onesie and customized it for Precious! Click here to view more photos of Precious.
RADAR paid $322 to cover one-third of the costs of the surgery, biopsies and dental treatment for Precious.
