To paraphrase the 1970s hit song “Precious and Few,” Precious and few are the moments we too can share about this dog! Precious, who was originally named Snow, was seized by animal control on January 21st as part of a cruelty case. Approximately eight years old and a Pit Bull mix, Precious had spent her entire life chained outside. After being held as “evidence” for over two months, Precious was finally released to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on March 23rd. Testing heartworm positive was nearly a death sentence for Precious since the shelter does not allow dogs who are heartworm positive to be adopted. Her only hope was a rescue commitment.
On March 28th, Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program began to get the word out to rescues about Precious. On April 5th Peace Love & Faith Rescue in South Carolina expressed interest in taking Precious. However, her heartworm treatment costs needed to be covered. Mary Lou reached out to RADAR for help the same day, and we agreed to assist. She received her initial heartworm treatment on May 6th.
The rescue had this to tell us about Precious: “This sweet girl is very calm around people. She takes food gently from our hands, she’s good with children and walks pretty well on her leash. She has a jovial personality and loves her belly rubbed! She’s very thankful for her new life. She’s so full of life and fun! Everyone who’s met her just falls in love with her; she’s just that Precious!” To see more photos of Precious, click here.
RADAR paid all of the initial heartworm treatment costs for Precious, which totaled $247.
