Yes, Precious is a gem of a dog! Animal control brought this one to two-year-old Labrador Retriever-Shepherd mix to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina in late April. A great dog like Precious should have been able to get adopted or rescued quickly. However, when Precious tested heartworm positive all bets were off for her survival at this overcrowded rural high-kill shelter.
On April 28th, Duplin animal advocate and RADAR liaison for the shelter, Gretchen Kozen, urgently asked for RADAR’s help with Precious. We provided an offer to assist with the vetting and heartworm treatment costs for Precious as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On May 2nd, Adoption First Animal Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Precious! She received her initial vetting and began taking her heartworm treatment medications on May 3rd and was spayed on July 21st.
The rescue told us the following about Precious: “She is a very laid back dog. She gets along great with other dogs and does well with the toddler in her foster home. She loves to cuddle and enjoys being around her family. Precious is a great dog who would make any family happy to have her!” To see more photos of Precious, click here.
RADAR paid $225 of the initial vetting, spaying and heartworm treatment medication costs for Precious.
