Hi, it’s me, Raymond. And yes, everyone does love me! I’m a super-friendly five-year-old Shepherd mix. I was wandering around homeless when I was picked up by some folks from animal control on March 15th. Next thing you know, I’m in the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Bummer! But I tried to make the best of it. Then I got some bad news: I had heartworms. Yuck! Maybe that’s why I wasn’t getting any rescue or adopter interest. Then the news got worse: my name was added to the shelter’s list of dogs to be “put to sleep” for May 25th.

Little did I know at the time, but folks were working hard to save my life. A lady named Susan Blakeney, with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, works with a group called RADAR to help at-risk dogs like me. RADAR offered to cover the costs of my heartworm treatment to help encourage a rescue to take me. And it worked! On May 25th, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania committed to take me. I had my heartworm treatment on June 14th. Thank goodness that’s done!

I have a gentle, peaceful nature. I’m never in any huge rush, and am very accepting. I like to live my life in a very “laissez-faire” style. I’m very patient and non-demanding around both humans and other dogs. Folks simply gravitate towards me knowing I am good for some hugging and nuzzling. While I may have a rather dour expression on my face, rest assured, I am always smiling inside and perhaps when you take me home, I’ll privately share my lovely grin with you. To see more photos of me, click here.

RADAR paid all of Raymond’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $246.
