Things were getting to be a bit tricky for Ricky. On February 16th, Ricky and his two canine sisters were surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. The reason? Their owners were moving. Ricky is estimated to be two years old, and is a potpourri of breeds. As if being dumped at the shelter wasn’t bad enough for Ricky, he also tested heartworm positive.
For over two months Ricky waited and waited for an adopter or rescue interest. Finally, on April 18th, One Life to Live Pet Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania offered to take him. The only obstacle was the cost of his heartworm treatment. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, wasted no time in seeking our help. We agreed and Ricky was safe at last!
Ricky received his heartworm treatment on May 9th. According to the shelter information on him, Ricky is a very friendly boy who loves ice cream! We were also told that he gets along fine with other dogs, which means that Ricky is not picky! To see more photos of Ricky, click here.
RADAR paid all $264 of the heartworm treatment costs for Ricky.
