Wandering about as a stray, it’s unknown if Rocco was looking for Morocco or just in search of a taco! What is known is that Rocco was picked up by animal control on February 24th and taken to the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in rural Bamberg County in South Carolina. About six years old and a Pit Bull mix, Rocco tested heartworm positive. The combination of his age, breed mix and heartworm status were serious obstacles to finding an adopter or rescue.
On March 17th, the dedicated folks at MAMAS reached out to RADAR to request our assistance for Rocco. A rescue was interested in taking him if his heartworm costs could be covered. We agreed to assist. Rocco received his heartworm treatment and was all set for transport on March 26th. But then, unfortunately, the rescue was unable to take Rocco.
“Rocco is a Love Bug!” the shelter staff told us. “He loves everybody and everything. He gets along well with other dogs. He must have belonged to someone who cared for him because he is friendly, well-socialized and well-mannered” Click here to view more photos of Rocco.
RADAR paid all of Rocco’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $285.
UPDATE! Rocco has rescue again! He will be transferred to Buffalo Paws and Claws.
