Without rhyme or reason, Rocco was surrendered to the Surry County Animal Control shelter on March 27th. The two to three-year old Husky mix, with his distinctive blue eye and brown eye, was friendly and affectionate. He would put his paws on you and look up into your eyes when you spoke to him. Unfortunately, Rocco tested heartworm positive.
On April 12th, Mayberry 4 Paws, an organization that helps facilitate and find rescues for at-risk dogs at the Surry County shelter, reached out to RADAR to see if we could help with Rocco. The shelter was overflowing, and a shelter foster would care for him while Mayberry 4 Paws facilitated his heartworm treatment and found a rescue placement for him. We agreed to assist, and he received his treatment on April 18th. He then got a placement with Carolina Canine Rescue in North Carolina.
“Rocco is a sweet dog,” we were told by his foster. “He enjoyed playing with the other foster dog. He loved to be brushed. He is a picky eater and will go on a hunger strike if given dry food! He will sit for a treat although he had to figure out the concept of treat; apparently he had never received treats before. He loves human attention, and is affectionate and loving.” Click here to view more photos of Rocco.
RADAR paid all of Rocco’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $250.
