Roscoe

When bad things happen to good dogs, we try to alleviate their suffering. Before the age of two, Roscoe was found as a homeless dog, starving and emaciated; he was given a home, but on the end of a chain outside the house and separated from his human pack. After nine months of living like this, Roscoe was brought by his owner to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on December 31st, because he had become food-protective. Food had taken on a high value to Roscoe because life on a chain offered no activity, no family life, no bonding and no relief from boredom. Food is all there is. And now, Roscoe also tested positive for heartworms.

But someone was watching over Roscoe. Not someone who could have prevented his misery, but someone who could help him overcome it. Her name is Susan Blakeney, and she is RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue. Susan contacted RADAR on February 8th and requested our urgent assistance with Roscoe’s heartworm expenses in order for One Life to Live Pet Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania to be able to take Roscoe. We immediately agreed to underwrite the treatment, and Roscoe was safe! He had his heartworm treatment on March 1st.

Roscoe is a Hound-Shepherd mix, between two and three years old. At the shelter, he showed no food aggression, even when eating together with another dog. Roscoe has charm and charisma. Shelter staff used Roscoe as their “tester” dog because he was so welcoming when meeting new dogs. He easily made friends with humans and animals alike, but a home without kitties would be a good idea. We don’t want bad things to happen to good cats! Click here to view more photos of Roscoe.

RADAR paid all of Roscoe’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $269.
