To read about Roscoe, you’ll want to have the tissues handy. On May 14th, this four-year-old Labrador Retriever mix was surrendered to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. Unfortunately, his family had become homeless. But even when they found a place to live, they had to give up Roscoe. It was heartbreaking for everyone, with tears being shed by the the woman surrendering him, her son and Roscoe himself. Sadly, he also tested positive for heartworms.
On May 10th, Gretchen Kozen, a Duplin animal advocate and RADAR liaison for the shelter, reached out to us and asked for our help with Roscoe. We provided an offer to assist with his heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On May 17th, Ruby’s Misfits Animal Rescue in North Carolina committed to taking Roscoe. On June 14th and 15th, Roscoe had his heartworm treatment.
Roscoe’s foster mom, who ended up adopting him, shared this with us from Roscoe: “I’m the dog version of the old man in the neighborhood everyone loves! My all-time favorite thing to do is hang out with my new mom. I really am the most handsome man, with my grey sprinkles only adding more handsomeness! I have a tough background but you would never know it; all I want to do is love and be loved. Thank you RADAR for providing me with my heartworm treatment!” To see more photos of Roscoe, click here.
RADAR paid all $250 of the heartworm treatment costs for Roscoe.
