Say “Howdy” to Rowdy! He’s a five to six-year-old Hound-Mastiff mix. Rowdy was initially found as a stray several months ago and taken to the Blount County Animal Center shelter in Tennessee, where he was adopted. On September 13th, Rowdy was returned to the shelter when his owners surrendered him because they were moving and couldn’t take Rowdy with them. While he was heartworm negative when he was adopted, he now tested heartworm positive.

Kristin Baksa, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, requested RADAR’s help with Rowdy. “When he was adopted he weighed 124 pounds, but when he was returned he weighed 148 pounds!” Kristin told us. “Unfortunately, heartworm treatment for a dog Rowdy’s size can put a drain on the budget. Since being surrendered, Rowdy has lost about 10 pounds.” We agreed to assist. Rowdy had his heartworm treatment done on October 18th.

“Rowdy sure is happy guy!” Kristin said. “He’s a great leash walker. He absolutely loves everyone: people, kids, dogs and cats. Rowdy is a very big boy, but he is also calm and easy to handle. He would probably enjoy being at your feet while watching TV or at your side watching sunsets from the deck. Definitely a volunteer favorite at the shelter!” To see more photos of Rowdy, click here.

RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Rowdy.

UPDATE! Rowdy has been adopted! We’ve been told that, “he’s the only dog in the family, hogs the bed, and gets lots of car rides which he absolutely loves!”

UPDATE! All funds for Rowdy have been raised! Thank you!
