Hello there, I’m Ruger! When I first arrived at the Horry County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on March 25th, no one knew my name since I was a stray. I briefly had the name, Trout. I ask you, “Why would you name a handsome golden Labrador Retriever after a fish?” I might retrieve a fish or swim with one but I am not a slimy guy with gills! I was relieved when they renamed me Ruger. I hoped someone would take me home, but despite being only two years old, I was unadoptable because I was heartworm positive. My only hope was a rescue and finding funds to pay to treat my heartworms.

On April 2nd, Heather Labbe of the New England Lab Rescue heard about me from the shelter and saw my picture. I guess she couldn’t resist my combination of good looks and good personality, for soon she was writing a group called RADAR and asking for help to treat my heartworms. Thankfully, they agreed, and I finished my heartworm regimen on April 9th.

Everyone says that I’m sweet and stunning. Okay, yeah, I am! No time for false modesty now that I am looking for a forever home. Just don’t name me Carp or Guppy! To see more photos of me, click here.

RADAR paid all $355 of the heartworm treatment costs for Ruger.

UPDATE! Ruger has been adopted!

UPDATE! All funds for Ruger have been raised! Thank you!
