The adorable Rusty sure has the right name for his fur color! Two to three years old and a Pit Bull mix, Rusty was a stray picked up by animal control and taken to the Aiken County Animal Shelter on December 13th. Although Rusty’s owner was located, he declined to reclaim Rusty. Testing heartworm positive, Rusty was not eligible for adoption under the shelter’s policy. A rescue commitment would be Rusty’s only hope of making it out alive.

On December 23rd, Mary Lou Seymour with The Heart Beat Goes On program began to seek a rescue for Rusty. Having no luck, Mary Lou asked for RADAR’s help on December 29th. We agreed to assist with his heartworm treatment costs to help secure a rescue. With Rusty’s time running out, the local Shelter Animals Advocates agreed to take him on January 7th.

Rusty received his heartworm treatment on January 13th and 14th. “Rusty is very friendly, cheerful and bouncy,” Mary Lou shared with us. Click here to view more photos of Rusty.

RADAR paid $300 towards Rusty’s heartworm treatment costs.
