Despite Sarge’s almost puppy-like teddy bear look, this Hound-Shepherd mix is ten years old! He was surrendered to the Blount County Animal Center shelter in Tennessee on September 20th when his owner went to prison. Sarge was loaded with fleas, slightly lame and coughing. Lo and behold, he was also heartworm positive.
On October 23rd, Kristin Baksa, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, requested RADAR’s help for Sarge’s heartworm treatment costs. “We wish he would have been surrendered earlier so we could have helped him sooner,” Kristin told us. “Our goal is to treat his heartworm disease, and let this boy live out his life in a home where he is loved and cared for.” We agreed to assist. Sarge received his heartworm treatment on November 9th.
Then on November 16th, Kristin shared the great news with us that Top Dog Foundation in Minnesota was pulling Sarge. One of the Top Dog’s fosters had recently moved to the Blount County area and fostered Sarge for the shelter. The foster told the Top Dog about him, and they had an adopter for him in St. Louis! He was transported to his new home on Thanksgiving weekend. To see more photos of Sarge, click here.
RADAR paid all of $499 of the heartworm treatment costs for Sarge.
