Sasha’s story is an all too familiar one. Her owners were moving and were unable to take her with them. So on September 6th, this 37-pound, one- to two-year-old Lab mix was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Because sweet little Sasha was content to quietly hang out on the sidelines and hoping not to be the center of attention at the shelter, she was overlooked by potential adopters and rescues. It also didn’t help that she was heartworm positive.
However, Sasha is so darn cute that it was hard not eventually end up in the spotlight! And on October 20th, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania took notice of her! The only obstacle was the cost of her heartworm treatment. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, immediately asked if we could help with Sasha. We agreed at once. She received her heartworm treatment on October 30th.
We were told this about Sasha from her time at the shelter: “Polite, calm and softly affectionate, Sasha was happy to hover close to humans. A more quiet home with slightly older kids would surely suit her style and bring out the best in this petite lady’s pet skill set. Unassuming and grateful for an opportunity to share her docile nature with those who cross her path, Sasha is a pure doggy delight!” Her South Carolina foster, Rhonda, shared this with us, “Sasha is such a pleasure! She’s the funniest tracking squirrels in the trees. She goes nuts when she spots one. She is great on and off leash. I can always trust her to come when called.” Click here to view more photos of Sasha.
RADAR paid all of Sasha’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $232.
