It’s time to tout about Scout! This approximately three-year old German Shepherd-Golden Retriever mix arrived at the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on January 15th. It’s not known how or why he ended up in the shelter. Without any adopter or rescue interest, Scout became more and more urgent. He was scheduled to be euthanized on February 11th.

The volunteers with the Urgent Dogs of Columbus County Animal Shelter had this to say about Scout (who was then known as Bassam): “He loves people, waving his gorgeous tail when anyone comes to visit. He is very gentle, taking treats nicely without jumping up. He tested beautifully with several other dogs, and he walked well on a leash without pulling. He’s a wonderful dog.”

On February 11th, with Scout’s life on the line, Faith Wright contacted RADAR to see if we could help. Ruff House Rescue in New York was interested in taking Scout, but could only do so if, in the event Scout tested heartworm positive, they could get help with his heartworm treatment costs. We agreed and Scout was safe! As it turned out, Scout was indeed heartworm positive. He had his heartworm treatment done on March 17th and April 17th.

We were told this about Scout: “He is a very special boy. He is very affectionate, sweet and appreciative. Rosey Kirby, his foster for several months, said he hasn’t given her an ounce of trouble all the time she has had him. He has a great attitude and appreciates the little things. He loves the bones that Rosey gives him. Scout will make someone a wonderful best friend!” To view more photos of Scout, click here.

RADAR paid all of Scout’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $270.
