At nine years old, this happy Scrappy is more of a pappy than a puppy! A German Shepherd mix, Scrappy was surrendered to the Harnett County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on September 16th. It’s not known why he was surrendered, but as an older and larger dog, his life was at risk at this rural shelter which was filled to capacity.
On September 20th Chris Leone, RADAR’s liaison for the Harnett County Animal Shelter, requested our assistance with Scrappy. As an incentive for a rescue to take him, we provided an offer to help cover his vetting costs. On September 22nd Adopt Me Animal Rescue in Wisconsin agreed to pull Scrappy! Unfortunately, during his initial vetting, he tested heartworm positive. Our assistance was used to help pay his heartworm treatment that took place on October 28th.
We were told this about Scrappy: “He is a great dog, who, like many senior dogs, had no idea why he was abandoned at a kill shelter. He gets along with other dogs. He has a great new canine friend at his foster home. Scrappy clearly knows that people beds are more comfy than doggy beds!” Click here to view more photos of Scrappy.
RADAR paid $250 towards Scrappy’s heartworm treatment costs.
