All fluffy and puffy, and not at all huffy, it’s little Sir Scruffy! This approximately eight to ten-year-old Poodle arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on September 25th. There’s no indication as to how or why Scruffy ended up at the shelter. One would expect a sweet little Poodle to be adopted or taken by a rescue rather quickly. But Scruffy is an older dog, and that put his life at risk.

As an incentive for a rescue to take Scruffy, RADAR provided an assistance offer on October 3rd. The next day, Reach Out Rescue & Resources in Maryland came forward to take Scruffy! It quickly became clear to the rescue that Scruffy had some difficulty walking. He would hold up his front left paw most of the time.

Scruffy went to the vet on November 1st. The vet found that he had an old injury – a fractured leg that was never properly treated. This has caused permanent damage to his leg. He also had three teeth pulled, was neutered and has a low-grade heart murmur. Luckily, he tested heartworm negative. The rescue has renamed him Super Scruff. RADAR paid $200 towards the initial vetting, neutering and dental treatment costs for Scruffy.
