The name Sergio means “attendant,” and this guy is surely one of the most attentive dogs around! A one- to two-year-old Lab mix, Sergio arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on September 19th when he was brought in as a stray by animal control. Sadly, Sergio’s physical state appeared worse for the wear. And it became even clearer that he’d been through some tough times when he tested positive for heartworms.
On November 5th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, had a bit of an unusual request regarding Sergio. While he was heartworm positive, his treatment had already been sponsored. Hooray! However, to seal the deal for Caring for Creatures in Virginia to take him, our help was needed for his vetting and neutering costs. We agreed, securing his rescue commitment.
“I was lucky enough to meet Sergio,” Susan said, “and he’s such a sweet, quiet guy. He’s a bit of a heartbreaker, as in looking at his body you can see life has not been easy for him, but yet he’s still eager to make the most of every moment. Sergio is wonderful with other dogs. He is gentle, cuddly and polite. As if he didn’t already sound perfect enough, he doesn’t seem to mind the cats!” Click here to view more photos of Sergio.
RADAR paid all of Sergio’s initial vetting and neutering costs, which totaled $201.
UPDATE! Sergio has been adopted, and his new name is Milo! His new family had previously adopted Benita.
