Did gentle Shadow have a shadow of a chance of being rescued? A four-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with a beautiful auburn coat, Shadow had her whole world turned upside down when her owner surrendered her to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on July 11th. Her sibling dogs were also surrendered because their owner claimed he could no longer care for them. Shadow had a shadow over her broken heart: she was heartworm positive and waited and waited for an adopter or rescue.

Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, finally found Shadow a rescue and contacted RADAR on October 8th. Caring for Creatures in Virginia had room for Shadow if her heartworms could be treated. We committed to helping Shadow and she completed her heartworm treatment on October 29th.

“Shadow’s nickname is Miss Manners,” we were told. “She is a delightful and gentle-natured lady who is looking for some peace and quiet. Happy to show off her understanding of the ‘sit’ and ‘let’s go’ commands, Shadow is fast to endear herself to a human and would be fine sharing her new life with other dogs or simply having one or more human all to herself! Shadow is softly affectionate and proudly sports a steady wagging tail to those who cross her path and exhibits excellent leash skills. Ready to come out from behind the shadow of the past, Shadow seeks a loving home.” Click here to view more photos of Shadow.

RADAR paid all of Shadow’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $307.
