Sheena was Queen of the Jungle. But this Sheena was prisoner of the shelter. On August 2nd, this approximately seven-year-old German Shepherd-Labrador Retriever mix arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia. A citizen had turned her in to the shelter, where she awaited her fate. As an older dog, she was at an even greater risk of not making it out of the shelter alive. Sure enough, she was included on the shelter’s euthanasia list for August 22nd.
On August 19th, Sherry Hutchison, RADAR’s liaison with the shelter, asked us to help with Sheena. We immediately provided an offer to assist with Sheena’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. Fortunately, S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) in West Virginia stepped forward to take Sheena! She had her vetting and spaying done on October 10th.
We were told this about Sheena: “She is very energetic for her age. She loves belly rubs and shaking hands. She has no visible signs of fear or aggression, and no skittish behaviors. Her temperament appears calm. She is also very affectionate!” To view more photos of Sheena, click here.
RADAR paid $200 towards Sheena’s initial vetting and spaying costs.
