Sheila

Sheila was picked up by the Darlington, South Carolina, police department. What was her crime? Being a stray, and she wasn’t arrested but taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 17th. She was a one- to two-year-old Shepherd mix. She was very scared, but sweet and lovely inside and out. There was a not-so-lovely secret inside of Sheila: she was heartworm positive, which limited this otherwise highly adoptable dog’s chances for rescue or adoption.

One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania wanted to rescue Sheila if her heartworm treatment costs were taken care of. On February 20th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, requested our help for Sheila. We said we would cover the costs, and on February 26th Sheila completed her heartworm treatment.

“Sheila got along well with other dogs at the shelter, and had no interest in cats,” we were told. “Her low-to-medium energy level would make her a great apartment dog. Sheila nicely meets other dogs with her calm, accepting energy and body language. She is a dream leash walker. Sheila is your go-to girl for a family with kids of most ages and also a home already pre-stocked with other pets. This lady’s tail never stops wagging and she has the best smile!” Click here to view more photos of Sheila.

RADAR paid all of Sheila’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $267.
