Make no bones about it, our decision to assist Sherlock Bones was elementary! This sweet boy was found as a stray on July 15th and taken by animal control to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. He’s a three to four-year-old Hound-Lab mix. Sherlock Bones loved everyone, so it seemed like a mystery as to why he didn’t get rescued or adopted. Mystery solved: he was heartworm positive. On September 16th, Sherlock Bones was added to the shelter’s “put to sleep” list.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us on September 16th to see if we could help with Sherlock Bones. We provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. A few days later, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania agreed to take Sherlock Bones! He received his heartworm treatment on October 5th.
We were told this about Sherlock from his time at the shelter: “He is such a sweet goofball. He loves to play and is so happy to get attention. He has a heart of gold and he is desperate for someone to love him. He wants to be with his person and he will whimper to be included. Sherlock Bones is in heaven when he’s with a group of people and dogs, where he will take every opportunity to claim his fair share of petting!” To see more photos of Sherlock Bones, click here.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Sherlock Bones, which totaled $312.
