Say ‘Hello’ to Shilo! This eight-year-old Beagle-Dachshund mix was surrendered by her owners to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on July 10th. And what was their reason? The all-too-familiar one: they were moving and they weren’t taking Shilo with them. So Shilo was dumped at the shelter. This is bad enough for any dog, but all the worse (and often fatal) for a senior dog who will not only be more easily stressed, but is less likely to get adopted or taken by a rescue.
In response to a posting about Shilo by the Mercer County Volunteers, on July 11th RADAR provided an assistance offer as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On July 19th, Harper’s Haven Dog Rescue in New York, a new rescue founded by Tracy Ayers that focuses on senior dogs, agreed to take Shilo!
On August 8th, Shilo had her initial vetting and spaying done. Luckily, she tested heartworm negative. Shilo arrived safely at the rescue on August 10th. Tracy had this report on Shlio: “She’s doing great!” To view more photos of Shilo, click here.
RADAR paid all of Shilo’s initial vetting and spaying costs of $182.
